Family First

A few years ago, a friend of mine was working on his P.H.D. while he was also working full-time at this job.  His studies and work kept him away from home most of the time. One night, when he came home late, he saw a picture his daughter had drawn. The title of the picture was, “Our Family Best.”

As my friend looked at the picture, he saw his two sons, his daughter, and his wife, but he wasn’t included! His daughter had left him out. Suddenly the reality of his actions hit hard as he realized that his daughter hadn’t included him, and he worried that she didn’t even realize he was her daddy.

The next day, he went to his wife and said, “Honey, I want to come home.” And he came home and became a daddy and a husband once again.  A couple of years later, his daughter drew another picture of the family and this time her daddy was included, and in fact he was holding her hand!

Time spent with your family is the most precious gift you can give. It’s time that you will never regret spending, especially since your children grow up so quickly.  If you’ve been too busy for your loved ones, remember that you can always come home.  You are an important part of your family—on earth and in the body of Christ.
